Steph McAdam’s Birth Story

Hi Ann,

Thought I would get my birthing story to you this time as I didn’t get around to it last time. It’s short but so was the labour…

I woke up at 11.56pm with my first strong contraction and shot out of bed. I soon realised at number 3 that they were every two minutes and panic set in I was like a mad woman shouting the babies coming. Here’s where the birthing class came into play. My husband was extremely calm, asked me to stand against the wall and massaged my back using the technique you showed him and slowed down my breathing and restored my calm. I then asked him to call the hospital to which they replied wait a bit longer. I got in the bath and continued my breathing but soon after knew I had to go straight away. I may have lost my calm slightly in telling hospital we were coming in right away but it was soon restored. We arrived at hospital just after one and James continued to keep tabs on my breathing not letting me set into panic mode. They then moved me to MLU around 1.45am where I continued to breathe but through the gas and air tube and Margot was born at 2.25am.  No tears and no tears to top it all off, a very quick but also very controlled birth in comparison to my last. I cannot recommend enough the birthing class to go hand in hand with the yoga. Having someone there to help restore your calm and remind you of the different techniques that we learn was invaluable. Thank you so much for everything.

Steph
