Jen Gunnery’s Story

Hi Ann, happy new year to you, just want to share my birth story.

My baby boy, Jacob David Gunnery was born on 7th December, weighing 7lbs9ozs. My waters broke on the Friday at 7.30am, and by 2pm I was having surges. I went on and over the ball, and used ratio breathing through the surges and watched films for several hours. By 2am the surges were very strong so I got in the pool provided by my one to one midwife, and listened to my hypnobirthing visualisation tracks. I did straw breathing for a while but I then needed some gas and air but used the breathing tube to continue the ratio breathing. Unfortunately in the early hours of the morning the surges slowed down, and it was a further 10 hours later that I gave birth to my lovely boy using just breathing techniques in the pool for the last few hours. The combination of all the yoga breathing and hypnobirthing techniques meant it was possible for me to have the home birth I wanted, with virtually no pain relief, and be able to last the 33 hours it took in total without needing to transfer to hospital. I’ll see you again for my next pregnancy, and I’ll plan to have the birth in the same way if at all possible!!

Thank you for your guidance from my 14th week of pregnancy, namaste Jen Gunnery
