Charlotte Forfar’s Story

“Hi Ann (and all mums to be)
Baby boy, Gage Stephen Davies, born on 12/8/12 at 15:17 weighing 8lb8oz.
Birthing pool with just gas and air.

I finally have a few minutes to write my birthing story for you which went as well as I could of wished for. I was only three days overdue when at one o’clock on the Sunday morning I started to get contractions, they were roughly 8 -10 mins apart so I decided to run a bath and keep timing them until they were closer together. I also started to put my breathing (golden thread) and relaxing techniques to use as the contractions where becoming stronger, I found that being on all fours gently rocking helped me concentrate on breathing through each contraction. By 7am we were at the hospital as the contractions where 4mins apart, by the time I was examined I was 7 cm dilated and in active labour. I asked the midwife if a birthing pool was available which fortunately there was, as I got into the pool I felt more relaxed and used the gas and air along with the golden thread technique, even having a small power naps in between contractions! As the hours passed, the pushing was becoming more exhausting and had to really focus on using any energy I had to push. I generously told myself I had 1 more hour to push my baby out and in the next half hour, Gage was born. No words can describe the happiness and elation that overcomes you when your baby is born, all the pain and exhaustion is worth it. So to all expectant mums, my advice is to remember your breathing and relax through your contractions as everything I learnt at yoga really helped. And if you are considering a birthing pool I recommend it. I hope my story has been helpful to you, and I would like to thank Ann for showing me how to use yoga to get me through labour, my mum was very impressed at how composed I was throughout and how I didn’t swear!! Good luck to all and namaste xxx”

“I had another baby boy on 3/11 at 03:40 am called Tate Oscar Davies. Only two days overdue.

My home water birth went as well as it could of. And the golden thread breathing really helped me along with some gas and air. The midwife commented on how good my breathing was. And whilst I was waiting for the pool to fill I sat on my birthing ball to help his head engage. As soon as the pool was full I was desperate to get in as I knew he would be here soon, about an hour later with three pushes he was here. I would recommend a home birth to anyone and couldn’t of done it without the techniques you taught me. So thankyou again and you never know, I might come back for a third!! Take care. Namaste Charlotte”
