Lauren Liversey’s Birth Story

Hi Ann,

Just to let you know that I had a little girl on June 1st at 14.41, weighing 6lb 5oz. Clara Elise Livesey

I just wanted to share my birthing story with the class.

First time I knew something was starting was a few days before going in to actual labour. I woke up about 2.30am with cramping in the right of my pelvis and round my back. There was no way I was going to get back to sleep, so I got up, went downstairs and used some ratio breathing (breathing in for four and out for eight) to help through the cramping. Focussing on the counting really helped and by about 5am things had settled down so I was able to get back to sleep.

The cramping sensation continued for a few days, and each time I continued to use the breathing techniques that I had learnt. I also continued to sit on my ball!
Once labour got going properly a few days later I continued to use the ball and Philip (my husband) kept reminding me to use some straw breathing and golden thread breath; so the birthing partner class did have some impact!

Unfortunately, when my waters broke I had some meconium, so I had to go to Arrowe Park.  The staff there were fantastic and reassuring, and on checking me said I was already 6cm, just on my TENS machine and from breathing! Philip was breathing with me the whole time during my labour.

We’re all home now and doing well.
Wishing everyone all the very best,

Lauren
